Character Personality: Zidane is a very rambunctious individual. Generally always getting himself into some sort of trouble, he always manages to somehow weasel his way right back out. Outgoing and optimistic, he makes light of even the most bleak situations and making sure spirit is kept high. Very rarely is he ever seen somber. Very sharp witted and agile, he's the perfect thief. He's also somewhat of a lady's man, often seen flirting with several girls and always ready to leap to help a damsel in distress. But all in all he has a strong sense of justice, a good heart, and always does what he thinks is right.
Character History: A thriving member of the thief group Tantalus, Zidane joins in on the mission to abduct the princess of Alexandria. In order to pull this off, the group puts on a play in order to gain access to the castle. While the plan is quickly thrown off of its tracks, Zidane runs into Garnet, the very person they were after. She asks him to please kidnap her, as she had been training to escape the castle for years. He happily agrees and helps the distraught princess flee.
Unluckily for the thieves, the Queen retaliates with harpoons, severely damaging their ship and only ride out. As it crashes in a nearby forest, Zidane encounters Steiner, the head of the Knights of Pluto who continually hounds Zidane about how this never would have happened had he not kidnapped the princess. Shrugging it off, our hero continues on his way to find the lost raven haired girl. After fending off a huge mutated plant, most of the group escapes harms way as the forest petrifies.
With no where else to go but to move forward, Zidane attempts to lead Garnet toward their destination. Lindblum. While Steiner's attempts to thwart the young thief's plan fail, they are also greeted by three black mages, all ordered to forcefully take the princess back home. After a long journey, the group finally arrives in the grand city of Linblum, where they meet the ruler, an oglop. After revealing the truth of Garnet's mothers plan, she leaves without a word after drugging her friends in order to try to sort things out with her enraged mother.
With Garnet gone and so many things going wrong the group temporarily splits, with Steiner smuggling Garnet back into Alexandria and Zidane and Freya heading for Burmecia. After several events, the group finds themselves back at Alexandria, Garnet now in the hands of Queen Brahne. She, along with Zorn and Thorn, extract the eidolons from her so that they may use them. Zidane and the others show up shortly after to rescue the young summoner. As the Queen goes on a rampage, destroying cities with her newfound eidolons the grouop happens upon a small ruined city named Madain Sari. A lone young girl lives here, claiming to be the last summoner of her people. It slowly becomes obvious that Garnet once use to live here, and that she was indeed a survivor as well.
As Queen Brahne seems to lose her grip on reality, she turns against Kuja with the intent of destroying him. He retaliates and ends up destroying the corrupt queen. As the party returns to the kingdom of Alexandria, Garnet is promptly crowned queen. Peace is short lived as Kuja, with the aid of Bahamut, begin to destroy the kingdom. With the help of her fellow summoner Eiko, the new queen call forth a legendary eidolon Alexander to fight back against Kuja. Garland interrupts and destroys the eidolon, along with several sections of the city.
As Kuja flees to Terra, the group pursues him. They soon learn of Terra's true purpose. To replace Gaia as it is a dying plant. The Genomes that resided there, all souless, in order to act as vessels for the souls of Terrans. Several things including the Mist and the Iifa Tree were pat of this process. Even Zidane himself. The Angel of Death is the name title Garland had given him. He was meant to murder the people of Gaia in order to save Terra. Kuja, being threatened and jealous at the mere thought that he was being replaced kidnapped the young Zidane and abandoned him on Gaia, so that he could continue to be the Angel of Death. The realization of this was mind boggling and caused Zidane to lose every ounce of will to go on.
Brought back up to spirits by the words of his friends, Zidane and the others gather up every genome and escape from Terra back to Gaia just as Kuja destroys the whole thing, Garland included. The party then returns to the Iifa Tree to defeat Kuja once and for all. Just as victory is within their grasp, Kuja destroys the Crystal, the source of life, bringing the whole place down with him. Kuja transports the everyone back to the entrance, allowing them time to escape. Zidane refuses to board the ship and goes back to save Kuja. Though he never returns.
Some time later, the rest of the gang goes about their lives, and Garnet rules as Queen of Alexandria. The Tantalus group return, for a repeat performance of 'I Want To Be Your Canary', a painful reminder that Zidane was gone. At the end of the play, the hooded character throws off his cloak, revealing a familiar tailed thief.
Character's Physical Description:
Quotes: "You don't need a reason to help people."
"I shall hereby do my best to kidnap you!"
"Well, with a face like this, I'd be pretty shocked, too!"
"To hell with looks, it's what's inside that counts!"
"I can't sit around knowing a girl's in trouble. Goes against my nature."
Roleplaying Sample: How long had it been since that fateful day...
As a spotlight shone out on a hooded figure standing alone on a stage, the crowd listened excitedly waiting for the next line while the new Queen sat silently on her chair in the balcony, lost in her own thoughts. This play had been the beginning of everything. Old memories were sure to come rushing back as this very show had been the beginning of an adventure long ago. And so the play continued... "I beseech thee, wondrous moonlight, grant me my only wish!"
As the last lines rolled off of his tongue, the hooded figure quickly whipped around to face the audience, as a gloved hand swiftly reached for his cloak. A quick tug and the figure had been revealed as he tossed his disguise to the ground by his feet. "Bring my beloved Garnet to me!" He watched as the Queen's eyes lit up as she quickly stood from her chair and headed for the door. There he stood, Zidane. Finally back after being gone for so long. He waited patiently on stage as the former princess quickly forced her way through the crowd, pushing and shoving as she desperately tried to reach him faster.
His arms closed around her small frame as she leaped into his arms, tears trickling freely down her cheeks, even becoming so emotional as to punch him. The thief only smiled, comforting her as he ran a hand through her hair. He didn't blame her if she was mad... He had gone and left them all and had taken so long to return, they surely thought he had been killed. "It's ok... I'm back now!" This resulted in a tighter embrace, as though she thought he was going to vanish into thin air like a dream. The crowd had already begun to clap and applaud. It was the happy ending that everyone had wanted. "I promise.. I won't ever leave again.."
As the day settled down, things became much less hectic. The old friends caught up with one another, describing the details of their life after that last battle. But one question finally popped up. The unavoidable. How had Zidane survived such an attack? His only response was to not worry about it, that it was done and over. And all that mattered was that everyone was well and together again. But for how long..?
Days passed and the others had already gone back home. The others had already begun their new lives.. And the castle was no place for a thief. Too high class for his tastes. Zidane watched as Beatrix's knights roamed the halls, biting his lower lip to resist the urge of mindless flirting. It was hard to break old habits, but... Garnet was well worth it.
Casually, his eyes rolled over to a nearby window as bright blue spheres scanned the streets below. Though, something caught his eye. A small unknown creature crawling around in an alley before silently slipping off into the shadows. "Hmm...." His eyes quickly flitted back to the room, making sure no one was watching, especially not a certain queen that he had left behind once already.. "Well, it's not like looking could hurt... right? Right!"
The lust for adventure clawed at him. A mischievous grin crossed his lips as he bounded at off the window and onto a nearby roof, dead intent on figuring out what lay around the corner.
