Name: Rain Corwen
Age: Appears 17 or 18, actual age unknown
Gender: Male
Race: Genome
Occupation: Black mage/adventurer
Side: Mostly neutral but leaning more towards good.
Weapon: Staff/black magic
Techniques and Magic:
Water (cool down 1 post)
Ice (cool down 1 post)
Thunder (cool down 1 post)
Fire (cool down 1 post)
Family:
Garland – Creator
Kuja – Brother
Zidane – Brother
Mikoto - Sister
Character Personality:
Seeming cold and emotionless to most, he finds it difficult to form relationships with others. Despite this, he is surprisingly caring and considerate and has been taught by the black mages how to be polite and courteous. Not used to Gaia and how things work, he can be a little naïve and even vulnerable in certain situations.
Often taking a back seat when it comes to verbal conflict, Rain isn't afraid to use his black magic spells to defend himself and others should the need arise. He often relies a little too heavily on logic and often takes things literally, not understanding sarcasm very well. His observations can often be amusing to others, although he doesn't always quite get what could possibly be so funny. He also doesn't understand how to have fun and holds little patience for 'stupid' people.
He often surprises people with his maturity for his apparent age but he nevertheless harbours an adventurous streak, always willing to try new things (within reason of course). He values learning and intelligence and become frustrated if he can't understand a topic or concept, whether academic or otherwise.
Character History:
Created in the town of Bran Bal on Terra, Rain 'lived' (for lack of a better world) with the other Genomes awaiting the day when their planet would awaken and they would all receive the souls of the sleeping natives. That all changed when Kuja came and destroyed everything, leaving him as one of the relatively few survivors to make it aboard the Invincible with Zidane and his friends.
Moving into the the Black Mage village, the inhabitants there taught him about Gaia and the creatures who live there, along with many other things. For some reason he became 'aware' faster than the others and even showed a proficiency in black magic, being just as adept as his peoples hosts in the village. He was encouraged to develop this until his prowess in the art became just about equal to the other Black Mages.
He earned his name indirectly through his interest in nature and the weather. He would often stand out in the rain admiring the falling drops of water as they lashed from the sky. His original name was 'Soaking Wet', but all concerned eventually decided that this wasn't quite appropriate so he was promtly renamed. His surname came from the fact that he spent a lot of time with Bobby Corwen, the mages pet chocobo. By this point however, he had developed the capability to name himself to a degree, thereby shortening his name from 'Rain the Genome who likes Bobby Corwen'.
Having lived in the Black Mage Village for a year, Rain has finally decided that the time has come to leave and earn his place on this world. He was no longer like the other Genomes but didn't feel he quite fit in with the Black Mages either. Taking a cloak from 'a friend who no longer needed it' he said his goobyes and made his way out into Gaia.
Character's Physical Description:
Rain has jaw length blonde hair that usually covers his left eye. His eyes are blue and he wears a dark purple black mage cloak with a gold trim and matching boots. He normally wears the hood down. Underneath is the traditional Genome tunic in lavender and white. He also had a monkey tail, which usually peeks from under his cloak.
Quotes:
“I may not have a soul, but I do have a heart. Just teach me how to use it.”
“So death is not the end, merely the destination of the path travelled through life?”
“How low is your I.Q. setting?”
Roleplaying Sample:
Standing on the the bridge overlooking the small pond, Rain could feel the sun on his face as it peeked through the clouds. It was a warm day, despite being slightly overcast, and the Genomes and Black Mages made their way around the village going about their daily business. It was early so the stores were only just beginning to open their doors.
“Pointless”, he breathed to himself as the yellow eyed mages unlocked the doors and entered their various establishments. No-one visited and none of the villages inhabitants had much gil or even much point in buying their wares. He was different though, a fact that didn't necessarily bring joy to the young Genome (not that he had kept track of his physical age). He would be leaving soon and had amassed just say enough gil to do so. He would need potions and the like if he were to survive outside the village, although he had little idea of what to expect. Sometimes Zidane would visit and relate stories of his travels but even that was little to go from. Besides, one day he would be able to relate his own stories of adventures throughout the many lands of Gaia, perhaps even more so than his more experienced brother.
Reminding himself to place practicality before pointless dreams, he grounded himself again and made his way over to where he kept his personal possessions. He had few but they were all packed for his travels. He had said goobye to most of the mages and of course Bobby Corwen, the Chocobo to whom his name had been partially based from, but it would be a pointless exercise to explain his depature to the rest of his kin. They wouldn't understand and come to think of it most of the Black Mages didn't understand why he would want to leave either. The answer was simple of course: he had outgrown them. He didn't mean to sound arrogant but he felt he had learned all he could from the people here and it had come time to move on. Although Bran Bal and Terra were his birthrights, he would always consider this place his home and meant to return here.
After a few more moments of quiet contemplation, and happy that no-one was paying any attention to him. He adjusted his cloak and picked up the staff he had discarded at his feet earlier. It was now or never and with baited breath, he exited the familiar embrace of the village and entered the forest. He knew the way out as he had been shown previously when he had accompanied the Black Mages to Conde Petie. Perhaps he would stop there first while he figured out how to reach the rest of the wide open world? Either way he left without saying any further goodbyes. He didn't like the feeling it gave him the first time around and he wondered what that particular emotion was called. Sadness maybe? That could be right as he would miss his friends in the village but wondered what kind of interesting people he would meet out there. There was something else there too although he didn't know if it was apprehension or excitement. Perhaps it was both, or was that not possible?
