Upon exiting the dead forest, the first thing that Rain noticed was the sun blaring down. As the heat caressed his cheeks, the Genome stopped for a quick breather. It had been no easy trek through the forest, especially given that this was the first time he had done so unaccompanied. He hadn't expected to get so lost, but then even the Black Mages who were used to it sometimes did. He wouldn't mind so much but getting out was the easier part, just following where the owls went. This only applied when they were actually present at all though.
Sighing, Rain clung to his staff as he peered up the familar mountain side where Conde Petie lay on it's cradle of Iifa branches. He had been there a few times but again this would be his first time unaccompanied. He didn't feel particularly apprehensive though as the Dwarven inhabitants of the town ahead were mostly friendly. It would certainly be his most logical port of call to really begin his journey as they were likely to know more of the world than the Black Mages. Taking a deep breath, he moved on toward the mostly familiar settlement.
After a relatively short trip, he reached the town and made his way over to the main part of the settlement.
"Rally Ho", called a squat Dwarf who stood by the entrance. It their traditional greeting and one that Rain had observed they were rather particular about. After thinking for a breath moment, he raise his hand and tried to open his mouth wide.
"Rally Ho", Rain retaliated with as much enthusiasm as he could muster, which unfortuantely was very little. It seemed to do though as the Dwarf allowed him to pass into the settlement, although it appeared he had more to say.
"Ye come tae trade or falla tha ither moonkey teyl?" He asked and it took Rain a couple of moments to ascertain what exaclty he meant. He knew that Mikoto had left the village with Bobby Corwen not too long ago but he had no intention of following her on her errand. However the dwarf cut in again before he could reply. "She went tae the moontain path, but ye cannae pass withoot undagoin tha sacred ceremony!"
Sacred ceremony? He'd had that explained to him once before but this left him puzzled. If Mikoto had passed through then how could she have done it? Surely she hadn't married Bobby Corwen? Everyone was very fond of the Chocobo but in his understanding of the ceremony that was taking things just a little too far.
He was unable to make his purpose known though as the Dwarf was then distracted by a woman irate over him being late for dinner. His own stomach growled as he realised that eating probably would be the logical thing to do right now. Making his way further in, he decided that he would ask them about how to leave the continent later. There wasn't much here after all unless you underwent the ceremony.

The girl looked at the familiar town with a smile. She just remembered how she crossed through that place when she was going in other direction and she smiled about that too. Dwarfs were quite easy to... fool. "Heh, I wonder how did you get through here... I mean, how did you follow me through here. I don't know how will they welcome me going back with a chocobo." She petted Bobby. "And I didn't caught that 'thief' after all..." She got off the bird and took a deep breath. Then she walked in the direction of the two dwarf guards. "Rally-ho!" She called out to them. "I'm really sorry, but he escaped me. And as I was resting, I found the bird from the village, so I couldn't leave him alone there." Dwarfs replied to her greeting and after some complaining on thieves and stuff they let the girl pass. They told her to get the bird out of here as fast as she can, because it's big and it can ruin something, so she wanted to get through without stopping anywhere, but then noticed the familiar face and couldn't pass him just like that. "Rain...?"

Wandering around town for a while, Rain noted that it was a good thing that the dwarves enjoyed their food so much as they did. This meant that there was always plenty to spare, a fact that the Black Mages and Genomes held in high regard seeing as this was where they aquired most of their sources of sustenance.
Finally sated and wiping the crumbs from his robe, Rain decided to rest up a little before finding out how to move on. He also wanted to know where the best places to visit would be in order to earn some kind of distinction. He didn't want to be like the others anymore, he wanted to be more like Zidane, Kuja and Mikoto, in other words different. Not because he could wave a little bit of magic around either, but because he had done something noteworthy. He wanted to make his mark on this new world and be remembered when it was his time to 'stop'.
He was pulled from his slightly morbid thoughts by a voice saying his name. He looked up, knowing that only those familiar to him actually knew his name, never mind cared to use it. He cocked his head at Mikoto and Bobby Corwen, wondering if he should ask the question that had been burning in his mind a few moments ago. He decided against it and instead nodded in greeting. He did not smile as he had yet to master the whole showing emotion thing. He wore a blank exprression as he spoke in a rather formal manner in reply to his peer.
"Greetings Mikoto, I did not expect to see you here. I heard you were on an errand of sorts?" He was curious as to what she had been up to, although he would understand if she wanted to keep it to herself.

She didn't expect him here either, she could say. Mikoto looked around and showed Bobby a place where he could lie down, and he did it without hesitation; the bird was probably tired. "No... I just needed to confirm something I've felt before." the girl leaned against the wall that was the closest to Rain. "And what are you doing here? Just wandering around or leaving for good?" she was quite curious about what the boy was trying to do. Maybe she could ask him what she was supposed to do...? Her own head didn't want to give her the answers, so maybe someone else could help her. Maybe...

Watching as Bobby lay down on the ground, cue relieved expressions from the Dwarves, Rain cocked his head again. Mikoto wore a blank expression similar to his own but small traces of something were there. He couldn't put his finger on what exactly though, it was almost as if something was troubling her and he wondered what it could possibly be.
Either way, it seemed that the villagers assumption of her being on some kind of errand wasn't quite accurate, although her answer was a little cryptic. It was probably still best not to question further. If Mikoto wished to speak with him about it then she would, but he didn't see why she would be bothered to share such things with an empty vessel such as himself.
He paused a little before answering her question. Mikoto had been one of very few he had not seen to say his goodbyes and he regretted this little. As far as most of the Genomes were concerned, she was their leader whom they all looked up to and it would only have been fair to tell her in person that she would be one short for a good while. He watched as the Chocobo preened himself before turning his attention back to Mikoto.
"Yes, I believe the time has come for me to leave. Unfortunately, it seems that you were absent from the original announcement, and for that I am regretful. People leave on journeys to better themselves and gain knowledge, right? That is my wish also, though it is also my wish to return someday. The Genomes are my peers and the Black Mages are our friends. At least that is how Zidane described it. I had hoped to ascertain as to how precisely to leave this continent whilst here. What will you do, Mikoto?"

"Me? And what am I supposed to? It's your life." The girl was looking at him trying to smile, at least a bit. "But it's good that you want to do something with your life, I know I feel like this a lot too. Sometimes I just want to go somewhere and..." she suddenly stopped. Expressing her feelings like that was weird to her. And that's not exactly what she wanted to do right now. "But anyway, I was just thinking about some things that happened lately and I could use some advice, if you don't mind."

Rain cocked his head again wondering what Mikoto meant by her first statement. He decided not to delve to deep into it for now though and instead focused on her second statement. It was interesting how she had tried to smile, something that came naturally for the Gaians but taking some getting the hang of for the Terran natives. Then again, they had been born with souls while his kind were originally created as empty vessels. They souls that they should have received were long gone but that didn't stop most of them from trying.
Taking note of her request, Rain leaned on the wall next to her assuming that this was some kind of Gaian ritual for speaking that Mikoto had picked up. He straightened his robes and took a deep breath before speaking.
"Whatever you wish to discuss will be heard in confidence, Mikoto. I curious though, to what things are you referring to? Has something transpired that has caused you concern?" It was hard to say if he really cared for the other, as such things were as alien to him as the Gaian environment, but listening felt like the right thing to do. Besides he really was curious.

Mikoto took a deep breath. It wasn't anything hard to say, really. Rain seemed more natural to her than the other genomes and it was quite reassuring. The problem was in herself. She had just learned how to don't ignore her feelings and it was quite annoying at some times. How the people of Gaia could live with these emotions without breaking up? She gave up, at least for that moment. She just stopped thinking about everything that didn't concern the current situation. It was the easiest way for her to be. "There is something troubling me about the Iifa Tree, but I don't know if going there again would be a good idea. So I thought about speaking to Zidane about it, but it seems weird without any facts. And that's it. I just don't know what to do." the girl explained. ... Her mind was empty as she waited for Rain to say something.

Rain looked at the floor as Mikoto spoke. So that was what had been bothering her? He wondered what kind of something could be wrong with the Iifa tree though as she hadn't been all that specific. Either way, it seemed as though she was seeking his advice and this surprised him a little. Perhap even with a soul, Mikoto wasn't so different to the rest of them after all and really had no idea.
Taking a deep breath, he though for a little while before giving his reply.
"I do not know a lot about the Iifa tree or what happened there two years ago. Perhaps you could enlighten me on what exactly this perceived problem is? Perhaps we can look together as contacting Zidane would be difficult. Otherwise, if the problem really is that bad then I do not know to whom else we can turn. I regret that I cannot be of much service, particularly if I am uaware of the nature of this predicament"
