What actually happened to Zidane and Kuja?

So, I've been thinking, what has actually happened to Zidane and Kuja. I mean, the game left there a huge hole, so we need to fill it up somehow. It was very likely that Kuja died, but we have him here, so he had to survive somehow. I was thinking about Mikoto (with someone?) rescuing them both and then when they recovered it's up to them what they did. And of course then Zidane went to see Dagger
Is something like this okay? Or do you have some ideas?
